Valentine's Day Ideas in Devon - 2025

Valentine's Day falls on 14th February, and is traditionally celebrated to show love and romance to one another.  In this blog we look at ideas and things to do in Devon for this special day.  Going out for a meal or sending flowers and chocolates is thought to be popular choices at this time of the year, but this blog looks at some alternative suggestions, that maybe, will get you thinking!

Dining Out

Dartmouth is situated on the western banks of the River Dart estuary and is a popular location for the filming of television productions.  It's also home to the outstanding restaurant The Angel.  Led by Executive Chef Elly Wentworth, a Masterchef Finalist, she creates a culinary experience using the finest locally sourced ingredients with a global influence.

Theatre

Lynn Faces

Nearing 40, painfully shy, and emerging from a break-up, Leah forms a punk band inspired by Lynn from Alan Partridge.

As she takes to the stage with no musical ability, will this gig push Leah further over the edge, or help her regain her confidence and find the hope she needs to move on? A funny, farcical and poignant new play, exploring the impact of behaviour, the power of friendship and how silliness can be healing.

Lynn Faces is a new play by multi award-winning writer Laura Horton, following her Fringe First-winning show, Breathless.

Theatre Royal Plymouth, Royal Parade, PL1 2TR

Picnic Spots

If the weather is warm enough, why not enjoy a walk and have a picnic in a beautiful setting.  Here are some of our favourite locations.

Northernhay Gardens, Exeter

England's oldest public space, Northernhay Gardens was created in the 15th century as a place to walk and relax.  Today it incorporates many Roman features such as parts of the old city wall and historic monuments.  The gardens are in the heart of Exeter city centre and just a five minute walk from the bustling High Street.  The charm and beauty of this garden is also home to many different species of wildlife.

Haldon Forest Park

Situated between Newton Abbot and Exeter, Haldon Forest Park is the perfect location for a quiet picnic with your loved one. In the centre of the park there are many activities which can be enjoyed, such as walking and cycling trails, treetop ropes and orienteering to name a few.  Along the walking trails there are fantastic quiet locations to enjoy a picnic, many with fantastic views of the coast and Dartmoor National Park.

Wellbeing & Spa

Gara Rock Hotel & Spa

A peaceful mind and body begins by spending some time together at the Wild Rock Spa.  Enjoy being pampered with a restorative massage or one of the many other treatments available here. Situated on the South Devon coast, amongst the picturesque countryside, this resort offers luxury and wellbeing around the clock.

Boringdon Hall Hotel & Spa

The Gaia Spa at Boringdon Hall Hotel provides relaxation and inspiration throughout, inspired by nature in a contemporary context.  A deep relaxation room is available for those having treatments, and this room overlooks a wild flower meadow.  A heat experience, bringing together the four elements of earth, fire, water and air is available which includes a Finnish sauna, crystal salt steam room, shower experience, Laconium herbal sauna and a traditional steam room.  The hotel is in Plympton, just outside of Plymouth and is in close proximity to Dartmoor National Park.
