Last weekend we visited the Exeter Food & Drink Festival featuring top-notch produce from around the South West - what could be a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon! This is the 12th year that the festival has run and the organisers have made a real effort to make it a great day out for the whole family. Cooking classes, arts & craft tents and a miniature farmyard proved a hit with children, while adults were able to indulge in some of the best food and drink in the country and enjoy cooking demonstrations from top chefs.
We made a special effort to try as many of the food and drink samples from the two large food pavilions as possible – it would have been rude not to! We particularly enjoyed the new Devon Roast Beef flavour crisps from Burts, in partnership with The Well Hung Meat Company. We will be looking to get some of these in stock soon as a great addition to some of our food hampers. We are also excited to be adding Georgie Porgie puddings to some of our hampers. Based in Budleigh Salterton, Georgie Porgie produce hand-made puddings with a delightful ‘melt in the mouth’ texture. The cider and apple pudding is one of our favourite desserts. We were also pleased to find that South Devon Chilli Farm were generous with their chocolate samples. They make for a refreshingly different (and somewhat spicy!) chocolate treat.
It was great to meet so many local food and drink producers and we are excited to be making some new additions to our hampers. We are already looking forward to next year’s festival!
