Last week we visited Home Farm Cafe on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, near Bovey Tracey, to sample their cream teas after originally missing them from our '50 of the best cream teas in Devon' list. It was our mistake to miss them, the scones were homemade, warm, fresh and rather large! The cream tea cost £4.95 for a pot of tea for one, two scones, jam and clotted cream, which is good value.
The cafe is set in the Parke estate, which is now home to the Dartmoor National Park Authority. The River Bovey and Granite Railway pass through the estate which, along with the ample free parking, make it an excellent location for dog walking (see Home Farm Cafe's walking routes map). The cafe is dog friendly with lots of seating inside and outside (check out www.doggydevon.co.uk for more dog friendly cafes).
Home Farm Cafe sources almost all of its food locally, with the majority of it also being Organic and Fair Trade, and even the furniture is largely produced in Devon. On selected evenings the cafe field kitchen comes alive with their chef producing a three course menu containing produce that is often picked fresh that same day.
